Application Method
The sole remaining method for applying legitimately is as follows:
- Declare Your desire to Apply for Need-Based Financial Aid: You can declare your desire to apply for need-based financial aid while submitting an application to Grinnell College.
- Fill up the CSS Profile. On October 1st, the CSS Profile will be made available. The CSS Profile code for Grinnell College is 6252. Parents who are divorced or separated: In the event that your biological or adoptive parents are not wed or are not living together, each household must fill out its own CSS Profile. To complete a separate CSS Profile, your noncustodial parent must set up a personal College Board student account. You must provide your stepparent’s information if your noncustodial parent has remarried. Between you and your custodial parent, keep your College Board account password private.
- Waiving the Noncustodial Parent Requirement: You have the option to submit a request to waive this requirement if you have no contact with your noncustodial parent. You can send the waiver petition and associated files securely to the Office of Financial Aid via IDOC or by other means.
- You will be instructed to use the College Board IDOC service to send a signed and dated copy of your custodial parents’ 2022 federal tax return (with schedules) and W-2(s), if applicable, after completing the CSS Profile. Immediately following the submission of the CSS Profile, comprehensive instructions will be posted on the College Board website.
- Making FSA IDs (Federal Student Aid IDs): FSA IDs, which are unique usernames and passwords, should be made by you and at least one custodial parent. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be filled out and signed using these. The supplied PDF has more details on creating and using FSA IDs.
- Complete the FAFSA for 2024–2025: Fill out the 2024–25 FAFSA beginning in December 2023 to find out if you qualify for federal and state financial help, such as the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Direct Loans, and Iowa Tuition Grant.
