How To Renew Your Passport in Canada

You may update your Canadian passport in five easy steps. These steps entail delivering references, filing an application, and covering any necessary fees.
Before you apply for a new passport, make sure you are eligible to renew your current one.
Fill out the application in Step 1
You can download the adult passport application form from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). You must check the relevant option in Section 2 of your new passport application if the visa in your expired passport is one you want to keep.
You can get a free application form and pay for their passport review service by going to a Canada Post office.
A different application procedure must be used if you want to renew a child’s passport.
Step 2: Take photos for your passport and include a copy of your prior passport.
Along with your application, you must submit two identical passport photos and your old passport.
Third step: references
Your references must be two people who have known you for at least two years.
The majority of family members cannot act as references when renewing a passport, which is important to note.
Step 4: File an application and make payment Personal Application Submission
You can submit your application in person at a receiving agent (Service Canada or Canada Post) or passport office.
The cost of the application varies depending on a number of variables, such as your age, whether you are applying from within Canada or from abroad, and others.
You can use a credit card, debit card, certified cheque, or money order to pay for your application. Cash payments in precise change might be accepted by receiving agents.
Important Information:
- If you’re using a certified cheque or money order to pay, be sure to make it payable to the “Receiver General for Canada.”
- Find out the authorised payment options from your local passport office if you are submitting an application from outside of Canada.
- Your application may be submitted on your behalf, but you must include a letter granting consent. Debit cards cannot be used to cover the application fee, either.

Your new passport and any related documents will be mailed to the address you provided if you submitted your application by mail.
You may be given a pick-up date if you submit your application in person. Additionally, you have the option to have your new passport mailed to you. Someone else may pick up your document, but they must present proper identity and a letter signed by you authorising them to do so.
