Richard Hart was a union activist, lawyer, historian, and political activist. Richard, a native of Jamaica, was involved in union and political issues in that country and the rest of the Caribbean. He became a founding member of the Jamaican People’s National Party in 1938. Later, he ran the liberal newspaper The Mirror in Guyana and served as Grenada’s Attorney General under the People’s Revolutionary Government. Later, he stayed in Bristol and became a well-known historian. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by UWE Bristol in 2004.
