TOPIC: Withstanding Destructive Forces Through Obedience
Bible Text: “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” – Matthew 7:24-25
Today’s text reminds us of the importance of practical obedience to a life of breakthroughs. It teaches that one of the best means to withstand destructive winds is the ability to put into practice the word of God. Hearing the word is good but putting it into practice is the best. Hearing the word is deficient and not sufficient in itself to protect a man against the destructive winds of life but the combination of hearing and doing makes a man formidable.
The uncontrollable winds of life, relational winds, financial winds, and spiritual winds can overwhelm a man and throw him off course, but God’s Word is filled with principles to help him withstand even the toughest winds. God doesn’t want you to just hear his Word. He wants you to do it, obey it, and put it into practice. According to today’s text, everyone who combines hearing with doing is likened to a wise man who built his house on the rock. When the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock.
According to this text, there are three things that happen in a storm. The rain comes down, attacking the roof of your life. The streams rise, flooding the foundation of your life. And the winds blow, beating against the walls of your life. As you get the blow from the top, you get it from the bottom and even from the side. It becomes more painful because you have no control over any of it.
What do you do when you face challenges that have grown wings beyond your control? What do you do with that health, career, family, and relationship challenges that are beyond your control? What do you do with a child you can’t control or financial hardship you can’t control? The answer is simple: put into practice everything you have learned in Scripture. When you do, you won’t fall down because the foundation of your house is built on the rock which is the Word of God. The more you build your life on it, the more solid you’re going to be. The wind can come and cause enormous problems, but it won’t devastate your life when you put His word into practice.
Beloved of God, John 13:17 says, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them”
Blessing comes not to those who know the word of God but to those who put the word into practice. To enjoy God’s protection against any form of destructive wind, you must learn to build your life on the unshakeable Word of God. This is the only foundation you can trust.
PROPHETIC PRAYER
I pray for you today:
May the Lord give you the grace to do His will in Jesus’ name.
He will establish you and make you strong in His word
I command every evil wind blowing towards your direction to cease in the name of Jesus.
You will not fall nor stumble in the midst of turbulence.
The wind of calamity and destruction shall never overtake you.
So shall it be in Jesus’ name. Amen
