Topic: More Enemies Of The Right Thought

When you allow bitterness to fill your mind, you won’t be able to constructively reason your way to your future.

SCRIPTURE: But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. – 1 Kings 19:4.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you are tensed, your mind is fenced.

Yesterday, we looked at three enemies of the right thought. We saw that fear, worry, and filthy intakes are some of the enemies of the right thought.

Today, we shall consider more enemies of the right thought. It is important to know these enemies because the enemies you don’t know, you cannot defeat.

Now, take note of these three more enemies of the right thought.

Sin (Mark 7:21).
Sin affects the mind negatively. For example, when the mind of a student is filled with filthy and immoral thought, his mental focus will be distracted, and that in turn can negatively affect his academic performance.

Unforgiveness and Bitterness (Hebrews 12:15).
Bitterness is an enemy of the right thought. Your mind is blocked and chocked with negative emotions when, for instance, you think about people who offended you, how terrible their offences were and how you are going to revenge. When you allow bitterness to fill your mind, you won’t be able to constructively reason your way to your future.

Leave your offenders and their offences to God and move forward! Most times, when you don’t release people, you have also not released yourself. Holding people in your mind holds you down as well.

Depression (1 Kings 19:1-10).
Depression is a mental condition; it renders the mind dysfunctional. So, don’t allow yourself to be weighed down by depression. Don’t think depressive thoughts like, “Why is my life like this? Why has God abandoned me? I cannot continue with life anymore”, etc. When you give your mind to this kind of thought, they lead to depression, and depression will deprive you of Divine inspiration. When you are tensed, your mind is fenced. This is why Jesus Christ asked the question in Matthew 6:27: “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”

Beloved, make up your mind never to give in to sin, bitterness and depression so you can think productively.

Remember this: When you are tensed, your mind is fenced.

ASSIGNMENTS:

Refuse to partake in sin in order to have a clear mind for productive thought.
Release everyone that has offended you; don’t focus on the offences of the past.
By all means, reject depression.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for showing me the enemies of thought. Today, I make the choice against sin, bitterness and depression. I receive the grace to always live right so I can think right, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

QUOTE: Worry is problem-centred thinking. Meditation is solution-centred thinking. Culled from “10 Principal Secrets of Principal People” by Dr Paul Enenche.

DAILY READING: Daniel 4-6

AMAZING FACT: Fire ant colonies in the Amazon Rainforest link their legs together to create a ‘raft’. This allows them to float down rivers and travel through the forest.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION/WORD: Grace to overcome sinful, bitter and depressive thoughts is released for you in Jesus’ Name.
