TREM Devotional

“And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2 Samuel 9:1 (KJV)

David had become king but he remembered Mephibosheth. Jonathan, his father had been in line to be king of Israel, but he died with Saul in battle. Mephibosheth’s legs were broken. He was, therefore, not an issue or a threat to David. But David remembered the covenant he made with Mephibosheth’s father. So, he puts everything on hold and searched for Mephibosheth. David didn’t know Mephibosheth, but he had to ask because the covenant was speaking.

An announcement was made, and a message was sent across the land. Is there any still left of the house of Saul that I may show him kindness? Not because the person qualified or has done anything right, but there is a covenant that I made with Jonathan, his father. So, for the sake of covenant, we must look for somebody that I will show kindness to.

It is for Jonathan’s sake not for Mephibosheth. What does that mean? That means even if Mephibosheth had messed up, the kindness shown to him has nothing to do with him. It is for Jonathan’s sake and not because of Mephibosheth. If there is anyone left alive in Saul’s house, whether he does right or wrong I will show him kindness for Jonathan sake. David is a type of Christ. God will overrule for you in your situations for Christ’s sake. Why will God answer you? It is not because you are qualified. It is for Jesus’ sake. All that Jesus did was for your sake. The pains he went through were for your benefits. Did you qualify? No! He knew you didn’t do anything good, yet He went through it so that you can have all that He has.

One of the strategies of the devil is to make you focus on yourself. But you see, every time you want to look at your qualification, you will always see something wrong. God has blessed you! Not because of you, but because of Jesus.
