Text: Exodus 4:18-26

18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

19 And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.

25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

Key Verse: “And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand” (Exodus 4:28).

MESSAGE:

Life is a journey fraught with many twists and turns. Disaster and dangers lurk along the way, just like success and victory. The experiences encountered in life are often contributed partly by the outcome of the company we keep as we go on this journey. Regrettably, many people go through life either alone or in the wrong company. How different they are from Moses!

God had commanded Moses to return to Egypt on probably the greatest mission any man had undertaken up till then. He was to convince Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, to set free the Israelites and allow them to leave his nation. On his part, Moses who had settled into a regular life of a family man, was now be taken from his comfort zone and sent on an arduous duty. With the backing of his father-in-law, Jethro, he gathered his wife and sons, and embarked on the journey.

God warned him that it was not going to be an easy task convincing Pharaoh to free the Israelites. He was, however, to remain consistent with his message: “Thus saith the Lord, israel is my son… let my son go, that he may serve me”. As he pondered over this heavy assignment on his way back to Egypt, he encountered another serious challenges: God threatened to kill his son who he had not circumcised. Until his wife, reluctantly and with much complaint, obeyed and circumcised their son, the journey was almost aborted.

You need something to stabilise your heart and reassure you as you go through life. You need the presence of God with you. With Him on your side, you will not fear what man can do to you. Allow his word to guide you, believe His promises that cannot fail, obey every command of His and look unto Jesus constantly; you will neither fail nor fall.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Walking with God makes life’s challenges easier to deal with.
