How to Link Your MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9Mobile, and Smile NIN-SIM

Following the deadline set by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for mobile network operators to deactivate Sim cards that aren’t associated with the National Identity Number (NIN), a lot of people have been scurrying around trying to figure out how to “secure” their networks.

After the NCC’s deadline of February 28, 2024, passed, a report claims that the NIN-SIM linking issue had impacted no fewer than 40 million phone lines.

Compared to the 12 million phone lines that the telcos had originally intended to deactivate in compliance with the NCC mandate, this is a 28 million increase.

In order to prevent your mobile number(s) from being disconnected, you can utilise the NIMC Personal Identity digital programme to link your mobile numbers to NIN. This can be done by following the step-by-step instructions provided below.

1. If you don’t know your NIN, you can find it by entering your first name, middle name, last name, and birthdate in the app’s information box to search for the NIN, or you can get it by calling *346# on the phone number you were given when you registered.

2. After entering the NIN in the box, it will verify your phone number next.

3. Select another number from the list of choices if the number that was discovered to be associated with your NIN is not very well-known.

4. After entering the number, you will receive an SMS right away with a token that allows you to continue.

5. Dial *364*2*NIN# if you do not receive an OTP.

6. Your UserID and OTP will be sent to you via SMS.

7. After entering the OTP, you will be redirected to your identity platform, where a picture together with your UserID and NIN will be displayed.

8. Click the icon to add your numbers, which will indicate that you can link them.

9. The number or numbers you wish to link will receive another OTP; enter it and the link will be established.

You’ll avoid disconnecting and needless heart palpitations by taking this action.

Recall that on Thursday, NCC Public Affairs Director Reuben Mouka rejected extending the NIN-SIM linkage deadline and threatened to penalise carriers that did not comply.
