[Anglican Communion 28 October 2020] Topic: They Devoted Themselves To Prayer

Topic: They Devoted Themselves To Prayer

Read: Acts 1:12-14 (NKJV)

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey.
And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James [the son] of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas [the son] of James.
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
THE MESSAGE:

The apostles were deeply devoted to prayer as they carried out the ministry of preaching, teaching and healing. The prayer of one accord in the upper room made things happen: They were baptised with Holy Spirit, fire and power and their story instantly changed. Learn to be in the gap for your church, family and nation (Ezekiel 22:30).

A Christian who is dry in his closet cannot be a giant in the public. Knees that cannot bend in prayers cannot bless. A glutton with a constantly filled stomach will end as a bench warmer in the Church. No prayer, no power; no prayer, no fire! Praying and fasting will make things to happen; the prayer of a righteous man has great power. Do not wait for others to pray for you; learn also to pray for yourself and others.

In our churches and homes today, we need not only organisers, we need great intercessors! Men ought always to pray and not to faint! The apostles devoted themselves to the ministry of the word and prayer (Acts 6:4); let us follow their pattern. Through prayer, spiritual distortions and bankruptcy, blindness and dryness will be crushed. Warriors, arise and be in the gap! When watchmen sleep, enemies take the city. Pray and watch before the storms come. Awake!

PRAYER: Dear God, teach us to prevail in prayers till things happen in Jesus name. Amen.
