AFCON QUALIFIERS: Newly-Invited Super Eagles Goalkeeper Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Newly-invited Super Eagles goalkeeper Sebastian Osigwe tested positive for coronavirus ahead of 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone in November.

The 26-year-old Switzerland-born handed a median call last Thursday who last represented the country at the U20 level in the 2013 Toulon tournament.

Osigwe could make his debut for Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone next month at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on 13th November.

The FC Lugano may miss his first international game due to his diagnosis after he tested positive along with his teammate Mattia Bottani.

“The management of FC Lugano announces that the tests carried out following the positivity of Mattia Bottani also highlighted the positivity of the goalkeeper Sebastian Osigwe,” according to the club official website.

Osigwe joins Maduka Okoye and returning Daniel Akpeyi as the three goalkeepers in Gernot Rohr’s latest selection but Katsina United’s Ikechukwu Ezenwa is on the standby list.

Osigwe joined Lugano this summer after leaving Swiss second-tier club Kriens. He has played in four league matches so far with three ending in draws and one win.
