The Energy Creates Scholarship Contest 2025 is now open, offering five prestigious awards valued at up to $100,000 each. This national initiative supports Canadian youth aged 15–25 as they pursue post-secondary education, while also encouraging creativity and critical thinking around one of the world’s most pressing issues: energy poverty.
Last year, five exceptional students from across Canada were selected as winners, each receiving life-changing support for their academic and creative journeys. Their stories are featured on the official Energy Creates website, inspiring a new wave of applicants for 2025.
Energy Creates is a national challenge designed to raise awareness of energy poverty, a crisis that impacts over one billion people in more than 150 countries. By engaging Canadian youth in learning, reflection, and artistic expression, the contest highlights the importance of reliable and sustainable energy access.
Through this program, students not only gain a deeper understanding of Canada’s role in addressing global energy challenges but also earn the chance to secure substantial funding for their education.
Each of the five winners will receive a scholarship valued at up to $100,000, which can be applied toward:
Full tuition fees
Mandatory academic expenses
Other post-secondary education-related costs
To apply for the Energy Creates Scholarship 2025, applicants must:
Be Canadian students aged 15–25
Be enrolled in, or planning to attend, a post-secondary institution by 2028

The application process includes four main steps:
Step 1: Create an Account
Register for an Energy Creates account through the official application portal.
Step 2: Watch the Documentary
View the feature-length documentary Help is on the Way (approx. 100 minutes) by director Mathew Embry. The film explores energy poverty in Peru, Ukraine, and Canada, providing vital context for applicants.
Step 3: Complete the Quiz
Take the 25-question online quiz based on the documentary. A study guide is provided, and applicants may retake the quiz until they pass.
Step 4: Submit a Creative Project
Applicants must create and submit an original project with a 500-word artist’s statement. Submissions can include:
Short films or videos
Photography, painting, drawing, or sculpture
Dance or musical performances

Students are encouraged to be innovative and express their perspective on Canada’s energy sector and the fight against global energy poverty.
A panel of professionals—comprising artists, scientists, engineers, writers, and business leaders—will evaluate the submissions. The five most compelling and original projects will each receive a scholarship of up to $100,000.
