The Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg is inviting applications for the BTU PhD Scholarships 2025, offering fully funded support to exceptional doctoral candidates from around the world. The program provides two types of scholarships:

📍 Location: Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany
🎓 Scholarship Start Date: January 2026 (or later)
Full PhD Scholarship (36 Months)
For newly enrolled or currently enrolled PhD candidates at BTU.
Short-Term PhD Scholarship (6 Months)
For candidates in the final phase of their dissertation who can submit within 6 months.
The scholarship covers all academic and scientific disciplines offered at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg.
💶 Monthly Stipend: €1,500
👨‍👩‍👧 Family Allowance: €150 per child (if applicable)
🎓 Research Mentorship: Expert supervision from BTU faculty
🏛 Duration:
Full Scholarship: Up to 36 months
Short-Term Scholarship: 6 months
To qualify, applicants must:
Be admitted or enrolled in a BTU PhD/doctoral program.
Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
Show outstanding academic performance and strong research motivation.
Have a confirmed supervisor at BTU (Betreuungszusage).
Be affiliated with a BTU academic chair or department.
Submit a complete application package as instructed.
⚠️ Not Eligible:
Applicants without an approved BTU supervisor.
Applicants whose previous applications to the BTU Graduate Research School were rejected.

Curriculum Vitae (max. 2 pages, including list of publications)
Progress Report (4–6 pages) outlining dissertation status
Academic Transcripts and Degree Certificates
Proof of Doctoral Admission at BTU
Copy of Visa (for non-EU applicants, if applicable)
Supervisor’s Report confirming dissertation submission within 6 months
📌 Note: Proof of dissertation submission is mandatory at the end of the 6-month period.

Q1. Can I apply without a confirmed supervisor?
No. A BTU supervisor’s confirmation (Betreuungszusage) is mandatory.
Q2. Can I receive both scholarships?
No. You may only apply for one type. Candidates with previous GRS funding are not eligible.
Q3. Are international students eligible?
Yes. The scholarships are open to all nationalities.
Q4. Do I need to already be enrolled in a PhD program?
Yes, you must be admitted to BTU with a confirmed supervisor.
Q5. Is there an age limit?
No. Selection is based on academic merit, not age.
Q6. Which languages are accepted for application?
Applications must be in English or German.
Q7. When will I be notified of the results?
Results will be shared in early December 2025.
Q8. How competitive is the scholarship?
Very competitive—selection is based on academic record, research proposal, and supervisor recommendation.
Q9. What if I fail to submit my dissertation in 6 months (short-term)?
Proof of submission is mandatory. Without it, funding may be affected.
Q10. Can I apply again if not selected?
Yes, provided your previous application was not rejected and you remain eligible.
