The AUB Mastercard Foundation Scholarship 2026 is a fully funded PhD program that empowers academically gifted, socially engaged, and financially disadvantaged students from across Africa and Lebanon.
Through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, participants receive holistic support to pursue doctoral studies at the American University of Beirut, while participating in mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement projects.
The program’s mission is to develop ethical, innovative, and socially responsible leaders capable of transforming societies across the African continent.
PhD scholarships are available in the following academic disciplines:
Theoretical Physics
Biomedical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Environmental and Water Resources Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Epidemiology
Fully Funded PhD Scholarship
To be eligible, applicants must:
✅ Be a citizen of an African country or a refugee residing in Africa
✅ Be 35 years of age or younger
✅ Hold a strong academic record from a recognized university
✅ Demonstrate leadership potential and a proven commitment to community service
✅ Show financial need beyond personal or family resources
✅ Be committed to attending all training workshops and leadership sessions organized under the Scholars Program
✅ Demonstrate English language readiness (RUSE) through one of the following:
AUB English Entrance Exam (AUB-EN)
TOEFL iBT
IELTS (Academic)
GRE (Verbal)
GMAT (Verbal)
Duolingo English Test (DET)
Candidates are evaluated based on:

A limited number of fully funded PhD scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding applicants.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at AUB provides comprehensive financial and academic support, including:

Complete the AUB Online Graduate Application and upload all required supporting documents before the deadline.
Step 2:
Under the “Financial Opportunities” section, select “Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.”
Step 3:

Complete the AUB Financial Aid Application, available 1–3 working days after submitting the graduate application.
