Mastercard Foundation Scholarships at The University of British Columbia, Canada – 2024/25
For the University of British Columbia (UBC), in Canada, the 2024 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is currently accepting applications. Students from Sub-Saharan Africa are eligible to apply for full scholarships from the University in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation to study in Canada.
The Program gives young people who are academically gifted but economically disadvantaged access to education. Participating scholars in the program are required to show a dedication to giving back to their communities and cultivate the leadership skills necessary to support social and economic change throughout the continent.

Qualification Standards
In order to be eligible for consideration in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for Students from Sub-Saharan Africa, candidates must fulfill the subsequent requirements:
- Candidates need to have earned a bachelor’s degree.
- Candidates cannot hold a PhD or graduate degree previously.
- Candidates must be 35 years of age or younger (born in 1988 or later) at the time of application.
- Possess citizenship or be a refugee in one of the following Sub-Saharan African nations.
- Have spent a substantial portion of their lives in a nation in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Current financial situation, which is economically disadvantageous.
- Have succeeded academically despite challenging conditions.
- Display the ability or capability for leadership.
- Show that they care about and are dedicated to supporting their local community.
- Be an individual who needs a study permission from Canada in order to study there.
- Not be someone who, after entering Canada, has claimed or intends to seek refugee status or asylum.
- Pledge to go back to Africa and use their knowledge and abilities to improve the lives of others.
- Be submitting an application to UBC’s Vancouver campus for a Master’s degree in one of the faculties and suitable programs listed below.

- Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM)

2. Faculty of Land and Food Systems:
- Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE)
- Master of Food Science (MFS)
- Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS)
3. Faculty of Science:
- Master of Data Science
Procedures for Applications
How to Apply: Interested parties can fill out the online Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Application Form in order to apply for the Sub-Saharan African Students Program.
Application Materials:
- Fill out the application for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
- Send in the personal narratives.
- Send in a resume or CV.
- Give two letters of recommendation.
- Transcripts.
- Send in the following: transcripts, a signed declaration, the application form, the personal statements, the CV, two official reference letters, and the checklist.
