Application Ongoing | Government of the Slovak Republic Scholarships for International Students – 2024
The Slovak Republic’s government currently offers a national scholarship program to foreign students in order to support student, PhD, university teacher, researcher, and artist mobility for fellowship stays at local higher education institutions and research organizations.
The program grants scholarships to cover living expenses during the stay and travel expenses (all categories for Slovakian scholarship recipients; students and PhD students for recipients from other countries).

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for Government of the Slovak Republic Scholarships, applicants must fulfill the requirements listed below:
Candidates who:
- Are students of the second level of higher education (master’s students), or are students who, at the time of the application deadline, have previously finished at least 2.5 years of university studies in the same or similar study program; Are students attending universities outside Slovakia;
- Who will be enrolled in a study program in Slovakia while pursuing their higher education elsewhere and,
- Who will be granted academic mobility to study in Slovakia by a public, private, or state higher education institution in Slovakia.
- All three requirements must be satisfied. Studies leading to a doctoral degree (or an equivalent) do not fall under this category.
Duration of a scholarship stay (students): 1–2 complete semesters (i.e., 4–5 or 9–10 months) or 1–3 full trimesters (i.e., 3–4 or 6–7 or 9–10 months) if the academic year is divided into trimesters.
- PhD candidates who received their higher education or scientific training outside of Slovakia and who have been accepted by a public, private, or state higher education institution or a research institution within Slovakia are qualified to pursue a doctoral study program at such institutions as the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
- Scholarship stays for PhD students might last between one and ten months.
- International university professors, researchers, and artists who have been asked to spend time teaching, conducting research, or performing art in Slovakia by a non-profit organization with a Slovakian office and a current certificate of eligibility to conduct research and development.
- Scholarship stays can last between one and ten months for university instructors, researchers, or artists.
Application Methods
How to Apply: You can submit your scholarship application online at www.scholarships.sk. At least six weeks before the application deadline, the online application system is made available. Only when the online application system is already open may applications be submitted.
