TOPIC: Keep Eternal Life In Mind

TEXT: Luke 9:28-36 (NKJV)

Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe [became] white [and] glistening.
And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him.
Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, [that] Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not knowing what he said.
While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud.
And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”
When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.
THE MESSAGE

The passage today reminds us of the transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ. The event included the visit of Moses and Elijah, as well as the voice of confirmation of the Sonship and Messianic personality of Jesus. The presence of these two great men of God was not just without a reason; they engaged in a heart-to-heart discussion with Jesus about His departure. On the contrary, Peter suggested to build three tents and to live there thenceforth. For Peter, it was a beautiful experience and a beautiful place to live (Luke 9:33) but for Jesus, Moses and Elijah, Jesus must be prepared to conclude His salvation and reconciliation assignment and translate to the eternal kingdom where He lives and reigns forever.

The kingdom Christ revealed to us and calls us to is not of the world but eternal with God. Our continuous concentration on the beauty, conveniences and enjoyment of the world will only keep us updated with the world but at a distance with eternal life. Christ, from this passage, was already prepared to leave the world for His kingdom. It is demanded of us, if we are His true children, to keep our minds more concentrated on heavenly things (Colossians 3:1-4). The world we live in today is gradually ceasing to be interesting and conducive. The END is surely at hand. Happenings around the world appear scarier daily. We must not think like Peter on the mount of transfiguration – finding comfort in things in the existing world, but daily prepare to join Christ in His eternal kingdom where we are sure of eternal peace and comfort.

PRAYER: Though the world presents beautifully adoring things, yet the end is ruin (2 Peter 3:9-10).
