TOPIC: Lessons From The Life Of Bartimaeus (I) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 15 February 2022)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Leviticus 17–18; Matthew 27:27–50

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 18:35-43 (KJV)

35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,

41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.

42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

MEMORY VERSE: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” – Romans 15:4

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES:
If we see only the problems, we will be defeated.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP:
Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
Today, I decree that as you call upon the Name of the Lord, no matter what you are passing through, you will be saved, in the Name of Jesus.

The Message:

The events and characters recorded in the Bible have useful lessons for all discerning believers. One of such events has to do with Jesus passing through Jericho and how a blind man, Bartimaeus by name, seized the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get himself a life-changing miracle. Let us examine the important lessons this amazing story teaches us.

First, Bartimaeus cried to the right person, Jesus, who could deliver him to the uttermost. Many people’s faith or trust is highly misplaced. They need healing but trust in the medical experts rather than Jesus. Many trust in the power of prescriptions and drugs rather than the Great Physician. Some even trust in herbs and roots, some in voodoo and magic rather than the Balm of Gilead.

While it is not wrong to seek medical treatment or use drugs prescribed by medical practitioners, you must always remember that it is God that heals. You should also ensure that you do not go to Egypt for help. Bartimaeus sought his miracle from the right source, Jesus, the Light of the whole world.

Beloved, no matter the challenge you may be facing, as you read today’s devotional, look only unto Jesus Christ for your miracle; present your request to Him in faith. He will answer you.

Second, Bartimaeus demonstrated strong and unwavering faith in Jesus. He believed that Jesus could restore his sight. His faith was tested. The large crowd was enough discouragement for a blind man. Bartimaeus did not for once see that as a barrier. His determination to see Jesus and get his miracle was resolute. He cried loudly and desperately enough to get Jesus’ attention. He broke the barrier presented by the noise of the multitude around Jesus. His faith moved the compassionate Lord and earned him his miracle. Dearly beloved, have faith in God!

No matter what your challenges may be in this most trying period in human history, let the Word of God be your anchor. It never fails. Hold on to Christ’s Word of comfort in John 14:1, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” Be anxious for nothing; cast your burden upon the One who cares for you.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

My Father, my Father, my Father, help me to be in the right place at the right time, in the Name of Jesus.
By the mercy of God, I shall not miss my divine opportunity, in the Name of Jesus.
Satanic distraction assigned to steal my testimony, disappear, in the Name of Jesus.
EVENING

Divine visitation, manifest in my life, in the Name of Jesus.
Powers from my village calling me into their coven, receive madness, in the Name of Jesus.
I shall not bow to the idols of my father’s house, in the Name of Jesus.
Miracles and testimonies that will silence my mockers, overshadow my life, in the Name of Jesus.
