[Anglican Communion 27 September 2020] Topic: Hold Unto God’s Love

Daily Fountain Devotional
Topic: Hold Unto God’s Love

Read: 1 John 4:18-21 (NKJV)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
We love Him because He first loved us.
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God [must] love his brother also.
MESSAGE:

Today the bible says, ‘There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment, but he who fears has not been made perfect in love’ (v.18). The love of God in the heart of any man casts our fear. Because such a man is rested on the fact that God loves him. And the genuine discovery that God loves us makes us love Him in return(v.19). But If a man says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar…’;a genuine love for God will translate to real and unfeigned love for others.

Dear friend, are you afraid? Are your actions and experiences of the past bringing you to fear what the future holds? Has someone so hurt you that you are scared to trust anyone else? Get to discover the love of God in Christ Jesus. This love washes away the guilt of the past, of the present and even of the future. Hold unto it and let it permeate your whole being, it will heal every wound. And the peace of God which passes all understanding will keep your heart. Have you discovered God’s love? Then extend the same to others around you in your words and deeds. It is in doing so that your love for God can be called genuine and effective.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to lay hold of your love and so heal all wounds that I have sustained over the years, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
