Party Chairmanship: Sheriff Best Man To Deliver APC In 2023 – Gambo

A former Senior Political Adviser to Senator Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State, Mustapha Gambo, has called on critical stakeholders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to anoint Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the party’s next national chairman.
Sheriff was twice governor of Borno State, three times Senator, and one of those who played key roles for the formation of the APC.
Although he is yet to officially declare his intention to run for the office of APC helmsman, insiders say he is consulting widely ahead of the party’s national convention likely to hold before the end of this year.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, Gambo said Sheriff’s vast political experience, a network of friends and understanding of the intrigues of partisan politics as well as the antics of the opposition stands him out among other contenders.
Others in the race for APC chairmanship are; former governors of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari; Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa) Danjuma Goje (Gombe); George Akume (Benue) and many others.
He said: “The APC needs a stabilising force and with due respect to all those reported to be nursing ambition to vie for the chairmanship of our party, none of them comes close to what His Excellency, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff brings to be the table.
“Apart from being the first governor to be elected twice as governor of Borno State; he was three times a Senator.
“He was chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), one of the parties that later merged with others to form the APC.
“He became the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) owing primarily to his vast political appeal across the board. Where are we likely to find a man like this, if one may ask?
“To the best of our knowledge, he (Sheriff) is the only one going around the country, interfacing with members and leaders of the party at the grassroots level in preparation for this weekend’s local government congresses to be held nationwide,” he said.
“APC requires a man of vision, foresight and courage to take charge of party affairs at this critical time of our national life. What awaits us in 2023 is huge and with President Muhammadu Buhari out of the ballot for the first time in eight years, the party can’t afford to experiment with its national leadership. We need a man who can get things done, a leader loved by all and sundry, one who has a track record of performance.”
