Fantasy Football: FPL Gameweek 24 Transfer Advice, Captain Picks And More

Posted by: || Categories: Sports

Goal’s handy Fantasy Premier League guide aims to assist your team selections over the course of the 2020-21 campaign

It’s double gameweek time!

The latest set of Premier League fixtures sees Manchester City, Everton, Burnley and Fulham all play twice, offering the chance for a high-scoring Gameweek 24.

With that in mind, Goal is on hand to offer team selection advice, possible captain picks and more as you look to turn those arrows green and climb your league tables.

Gameweek 24 fixtures

Team selection advice

Goalkeepers

Almost a month has passed since Nick Pope (£5.5m) last kept a clean sheet – that remarkable 11-point showing in the 1-0 win over Liverpool – but he remains the No 1 goalkeeper pick heading into Gameweek 24.

Indeed, Burnley are one of four sides with a double gameweek and face Crystal Palace (A) and Fulham (H), before another favourable fixture against West Brom (H) at home the following week.

It wouldn’t be the worst idea to bring in Illan Meslier (£4.7m) either, with Leeds having two fixtures in Gameweek 25.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side recorded a rare clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last time out and have matches against Wolves (A) and Southampton (H) coming up – it is Arsenal away before that, however, which might put some potential owners off.

Defenders

Manchester City have kept clean sheets in all but one of their last seven matches and with the Premier League leaders having a double gameweek, the temptation would be to flood your team with defenders from Pep Guardiola’s side.

As we’ve mentioned countless times before, however, rotation may well be the order of the day for the City boss.

Second-guessing Guardiola is no mean feat but with five matches to play in the space of two weeks, it’s unlikely that the same backline will feature in the consecutive Gameweek 24 fixtures, against Tottenham (H) and Everton (A).

With there being question marks over Ruben Dias’s (£6.1m) availability for the Spurs clash on Saturday, John Stones (£5.2m), who was rested for the FA Cup victory over Swansea, looks the best central-defensive pick.

There’s every chance he’ll also feature against his former club the game after, while Joao Cancelo (£6m), another who sat out Wednesday night’s game, should at the very least feature against Jose Mourinho’s men.

City aside, we’ve already mentioned the value of having at least one Burnley defensive player, with Erik Pieters (£4.3m) representing the best value pick – the Dutchman having claimed an assist in the 1-1 draw with Brighton.

If you’re looking for a defender who is out-performing many of the top midfielders in the FPL in 2020-21 then Aaron Cresswell (£5.7m) is your man.

The left-back already has 106 points and, with 38, is fourth in the table of the Premier League’s most successful crossers in 2020-21, behind only Pedro Neto, Andrew Robertson and Mason Mount.

Midfielders

This is Ilkay Gundogan’s (£6m) world and we’re all living in it.

The Manchester City midfielder delivered 13 points at Anfield last time out, despite missing a penalty, and continues to step up admirably in the absence of star man Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m).

Indeed, the Belgian isn’t too far away from being available again now but his return certainly won’t be at the expense of Gundogan, who has been City’s best player since the middle of December.

The Germany international played a little under an hour of the 3-1 win at Swansea and, Ederson aside, is probably the City player who has the best chance of starting against both Tottenham and Everton in Gameweek 24.

Elsewhere, Gylfi Sigursson (£6.8m) is worth a look after his impressive performance in the 5-4 FA Cup victory over Tottenham.

The 31-year-old scored a goal and claimed three asists on Thursday night and has surely earned a run in the starting XI now, with the Toffees taking on Fulham (H) and Manchester City (A) for their double gameweek.

Another in-form midfielder that should be considered is Leeds United star Raphinha (£5.3m). The Brazilian is available for a crazily low fee given his impact in recent weeks (33 points across four matches) and, of course, has a double gameweek on the horizon to offer a potentially significant return.

Forwards

Harry Kane (£11m) is back!

The Tottenham striker recorded eight points in his first match since Gameweek 20 last time out although with Spurs out of form, and facing City away next, now might not be the time to bring him in.

Indeed, the north Londoners have two fixtures that are yet to have been rearranged – against Fulham and Aston Villa respectively – offering the chance for future double gameweeks that would make expensive Kane a more appealing option.

Patrick Bamford (£6.8m) and Ollie Watkins (£6.4m) both represent better options this week, while it remains to be seen how severe the hamstring injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.7m) is, with his 44.3% of owners undoubtedly hoping for a positive outcome from Thursday’s scan.

Who is the best captain pick for Gameweek 24?

Taking into account the double gameweek, it’s got to be one of City’s players taking the armband.

There will undoubtedly be rotation across Guardiola’s attacking line over the two matches, although the in-form Gundogan (£6m) arguably stands the best chance of featuring in both games and he gets the nod from us this week.
