[Anglican Communion 15 October 2020] Topic: Procrastination

Topic: Procrastination

Read: Ecclesiastes 11:1-10 (NKJV)

Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.
Give a serving to seven, and also to eight, For you do not know what evil will be on the earth.
If the clouds are full of rain, They empty [themselves] upon the earth; And if a tree falls to the south or the north, In the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie.
He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap.
As you do not know what [is] the way of the wind, [Or] how the bones [grow] in the womb of her who is with child, So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.
In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike [will be] good.
Truly the light is sweet, And [it is] pleasant for the eyes to behold the sun;
But if a man lives many years [And] rejoices in them all, Yet let him remember the days of darkness, For they will be many. All that is coming [is] vanity.
Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, And in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment.
Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, And put away evil from your flesh, For childhood and youth [are] vanity.
THE MESSAGE:

Procrastination is deferring, delaying, or putting off an opportunity. ‘Tomorrow’ is the busiest day of people’s lives. This is because many people defer until tomorrow what they should do today and end up never really performing the tasks. There is a common understanding that the more an opportunity is delayed in being taken advantage of, the longer and more difficult it becomes. Verse 4 of our text says that “He that observes the wind shall not sow; and he that regards the clouds shall not reap”. There is always a time of sowing and it comes before harvest. If a man wastes his sowing time looking at human fears and discouragements, harvest time may be put off forever.

Circumstances sometimes discourage us from doing what we are supposed to do, but the Scripture today is encouraging us to move beyond the discouragements. What is it that God is leading you to do? What task has He laid in your heart to accomplish? Do not look at the size of your challenges but consider He who has promised to see you through. Go ahead and sow your seed as God leads you and allow Him to bring the fruits in due time.

PRAYER: Lord, deliver me from my fears and fill my heart with faith.
