Text: Jeremiah 29:10-19 (KJV)

10 For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16 Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:

19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

Key Verse: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – (Jeremiah 29:11)

MESSAGE:

Nothing can be more soothing to the perplexed captives of Judah who were sorrowing in Babylon than the encouraging prophecies and words of Prophet Jeremiah. The message of the prophet was emphatic and compelling. He stated clearly that their captivity was for a determined period of time. Even in the seemingly evil and adverse situations, God’s thought towards them was still of peace.

At the expected time, He would “turn away [their] captivity, and gather [them] from all the nations, and from all the places whither [He] had driven [them]… and bring [them] again into the place whence [He] caused [them] to be carried away captive(s)” (Jeremiah 29:14).

God uses every situation including adversities to work out good for all that love Him. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…” (Romans 8:28). The ways of God are incomprehensible by man. That He would use the captivity to glorify Himself in Babylon through Shadrack, Meshach, Abednego and Daniel was not foreseen by any mortal man. However, even Nebuchadnezzar who had earlier boasted that no God could deliver from his hands confessed that these saints were “servants of the Most high God”, and that “no other God that can deliver after this sort” (Daniel 3:26,29).

Are you passing through challenging times today? Believe God; it will end up in His glory. He said, “I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed” (Malachi 3:6).

Thought For The Day: God’s blessings are for His obedient and faithful children.
